Total Quality can only be achieved by acting on the whole system (supplier-company-customer) for it to improve. Within this framework, all company activities must be subject to improvement, as this will benefit customers, suppliers and the company itself.

Shewhart defined continuous improvement as a 4 stage cycle PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act).

SHEWHART PDCA CYCLE

1.Plan: detailed planning or preparation is the most important and complex part of the cycle. The success of the rest depends on this.

2.Do: implement what has been decided in the planning stage.

3.Check: check the results against the established objectives

4.Act: decide what is to be continued and what must be corrected.

If we could apply this cycle to all the activities of the organisation, the results would improve substantially in a short time.
